SRO PAs are also board-certified and licensed to provide medical and surgical care as an integral part of the orthopedic surgical team. Our PAs are involved in all aspects of perioperative inpatient and outpatient management, acting on behalf of and within the supervision of their attending physician, and the scope of their practice and licensure. Their work may involve assisting in the operating room, performing joint injections, interpreting X-rays and evaluating and treating orthopedic problems in the orthopedic clinic.
Rodney Gerrit DeKleuver, NCCPA – Certified Physician Assistant
Rodney Gerrit DeKleuver graduated in 2018 from the MGH Institute of Health Professions in Boston, Massachusetts with a master’s degree in physician assistant studies and is certified to practice by the State of California. He previously earned his bachelor’s degree in biology with a minor in anthropology from the University of Massachusetts, Boston in 2014.
Before attending college, Rodney served multiple deployments from 2003-2008 in the U.S. Navy as a platoon and battalion aid station corpsman with the 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion.
Rodney serves as the physician assistant to Dr. Gary Stein, focusing on sport and degenerative orthopedics. His responsibilities include but are not limited to the care of acute and chronic orthopedic injuries and disease, preoperative and postoperative management of patients, and surgical first assists.
Away from work, Rodney maintains a lifelong interest in the liberal arts, nature, and physical fitness.
Sarah Swanson, NCCPA – Certified Physician Assistant
Sarah Swanson earned her Master of Physician Assistant Studies degree from Samuel Merritt University in Oakland, California in 2021, where she was honored with the program’s Academic Achievement Award for ranking at the top of her class. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in biopsychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Sarah is licensed by the State of California and certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. Her patient care philosophy is rooted in allowing patients to be in control of their own health while she does everything possible to provide them with the information they need to make informed choices about their care. She prides herself on creating a personalized treatment plan for each patient and then supporting them as needed to recover from their injury or illness and enjoy good health. She works as a PA for Dr. Axelrad.
In her free time, Sarah enjoys everyday life with her fiancé and their dog Tyson, volunteering with shelter animals, dancing, skiing, playing tennis, trying new restaurants, and exploring the outdoors.
