About Dr. Axelrad

Dr. Thomas W. Axelrad is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who earned both his MD degree and a PhD in biochemistry and molecular biology from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine. He then relocated for his internship in general surgery and residency in orthopedic surgery at Boston University Medical Center, followed by fellowship training at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.

In Boston, he served as director of orthopedics at St. Joseph’s Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

Dr. Axelrad is an experienced trauma surgeon with special expertise in treatment and surgery for conditions affecting the hip. He has co-authored multiple articles in publications such as the Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma and the American Journal of Sports Medicine.

In recent years, he has developed expertise in the anterior approach option to hip surgery. The procedure requires only a small incision with far less damage to muscles and tendons than more traditional surgery methods, and generally allows for shorter hospital stays and faster recovery times.
