As a southern California native, Richard Perry is well acquainted with surfing – he has been doing it for more than 40 years. Although an unquestionably healthy and active 77-year-old, Richard has found himself with various orthopaedic concerns along the years, which is what brought him to Dr. Thomas C. Degenhardt and SRO.
I guess I’m a regular customer of Dr. Degenhardt’s. I first became a patient of his when arthroscopic surgery was still a new treatment option. Luckily for me, Dr. Degenhardt was one of the only doctors at the time that had the experience and extensive training in arthroscopic surgery and was able to give me the minimally invasive surgery I needed. Since then, he has successfully completed a number of restorative orthopaedic surgeries including total joint replacement in both knees which and has gotten me back to what I love the most. I have been physically active all my life – it is inconceivable not to be – and I am still active, thanks to Dr. Degenhardt.

Brian Smart is a rancher and line-cook up in Truckee, CA. Brian had stoically endured chronic arthritic pain in his knee for over a decade. About eight years ago, Brian was bucked off a horse. At 70 years old, Dale Downing has been an active golfer for over thirty years. A few years back, Dale suffered a broken leg while working with cattle. Unfortunately, his leg failed to settle properly as it healed. The bones in his leg rubbed against one another overtime, softening the cartilage that normally provides a natural cushion. Before my knee replacement, I couldn’t walk more than 100 yards without experiencing overwhelming pain. I feared that I’d never be able to golf again. As the head coach of Montgomery High School’s football team, it’s hard to overestimate Jason Franci’s appreciation for the human body’s physical ability. When he’s not out on the field working with his athletes, Jason enjoys fishing and hunting, and working out at the gym four times a week. Needless to say, when he began having chronic pain in his knee, and then later his shoulder, the pain stood in the way of Jason’s physical lifestyle.
