Dr. McDermott is co-director of the Sports Medicine Center at Santa Rosa Orthopaedics. He has advanced training in sports medicine and specializes in a variety of orthopaedic issues, with emphasis on treatments including; arthroscopic, complex reconstruction, total joint replacement and  minimally invasive procedures of the knee, hip, and shoulder.

As president of his medical school class, at Creighton University, Dr. McDermott received numerous awards for his research. After his residency at Naval Medical Center in San Diego, California he received a staff appointment to remain in San Diego as a clinical instructor of orthopaedic surgery. He completed his sports medicine fellowship at Cincinnati Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center in 2002 before returning to the Department of Orthopaedics in San Diego as the director of Sports Medicine. Dr. McDermott left the Navy as a full commander after fourteen years of service and entered private practice in Santa Rosa.

Dr. McDermott is recognized for his knowledgeable and compassionate approach to orthopaedic care aimed at personalizing nonoperative treatment protocols for patients while maximizing surgical outcomes when necessary.
